From Seed to Plant

We started our plant unit this week...
Today we planted our seeds & we will be keeping a daily journal recording and charting the growoth of the plants. We planted hollyhocks, cacti, and bachlor buttons- Hopefully they will grow! We read the Gail Gibbons book From Seed to Plant and then discussed what things a seed needs to grow... I am planning bulletin board idea that grow from week to week. It will start as a seed... Then grow a sprout.... and so on until it blooms....

What are smart boards?

I have been reading through some of the needs assessments, and a lot of our technological "wishes" could be solved with smart boards. Smart boards, which can simply be used as a white board, but it interacts with your computer. You can access your computer from standing in front of the class. You can do power point lesson and pull up photos and/or articles from the Internet to share with your class. Your finger tip acts as the mouse... so it's really quite simple.

Although Smart Boards are amazing and would be lovely to have in every classroom- they can be a little expensive. Most schools represented in my technology courses at OU Athens have smart boards in every room, but there are a few that have one smart board set up in a lab style. The teachers reported that they simply reserve the room on a schedule posted in the main office...

Communication is Key

I do believe that we need to improve our way of communication in this building. We need to be able to spend time with other grade levels ( and our own ) to discuss topics such as intervention. We all need to be using the same form of intervention. I often find that someone may be using a form of intervention that I am not familiar with. This makes it difficult for me to understand the outcome of the intervention. It would be highly beneficial if we were able to see what (if any) intervention a current student received in the past. This would also let you know when the student began to struggle and what has (or has not worked) in the past.

Communication Is Key...

Do you Agree?

What is your opinion on our current intervention process?

Do you feel you know what forms of intervention other teachers are doing?

How would it benefit you (and your students) if you knew the interventions used with each specific child in the past?

Please answer the questions honestly!
